Parkinson’s disease is a progressive neurological disorder that is caused by the degeneration of nerve cells in the part of the brain called the substantia nigra, which controls movement, resulting in tremors, slowness of movement, rigidity, and impaired balance and coordination – the primary symptoms of the disease.

The gold standard for evaluating Parkinson’s disease symptoms has primarily relied on subjective assessments during in-clinic visits using rating scales like the Unified Parkinson’s Disease Rating Scale (UPDRS). Over the last decades, various methods have been developed to assess the patients' motor symptoms more accurately.

The DGN-Kongress in Berlin was the venue for this year’s annual meeting of the German Neurological Society from November 8 to 11, 2023. The research was conducted in collaboration between the University of Eastern Finland, Kuopio University Hospital (KUH) - Kuopion yliopistollinen sairaala (KYS), UCL Queen Square Institute of Neurology and Adamant Health.
