Parkinson’s disease is a progressive neurological disorder that is caused by the degeneration of nerve cells in the part of the brain called the substantia nigra, which controls movement, resulting in tremors, slowness of movement, rigidity, and impaired balance and coordination – the primary symptoms of the disease.

The gold standard for evaluating Parkinson’s disease symptoms has primarily relied on subjective assessments during in-clinic visits using rating scales like the Unified Parkinson’s Disease Rating Scale (UPDRS). This approach, however, has specific limitations, leading to often incomplete disease progression evaluation. Over the last decades, various methods have been developed to assess the patients' motor symptoms more accurately.

April marks Parkinson’s Awareness Month, a time dedicated to increasing awareness about and elevating the conversation around Parkinson's disease, a neurological disorder that progressively impairs movement and function, affecting millions worldwide.

The Paracelsus Nordseeklinik Helgoland's specialist neurological department, headed by Dr. Annette Rogge, offers a multimodal therapy program for patients with Parkinson's disease. To provide her patients with the best possible treatment tailored to their individual disease progression, Dr. Rogge opted for an objective assessment of motor symptoms using the measurement and analysis services provided by Adamant Health.

On Saturday, we had the honor to celebrate the Finnish Movement Disorders Association’s 40th anniversary together with over 200 guests, including people diagnosed with movement disorders and their relatives.

The DGN-Kongress in Berlin was the venue for this year’s annual meeting of the German Neurological Society from November 8 to 11, 2023. Launching its presence in Germany, Adamant Health participated for the first time as an advanced technology provider with a booth to promote our concept for accurate and detailed symptom measurement.

A new study on wearable monitoring of negative myoclonus within the home environment is now available. The research was conducted in collaboration between the University of Eastern Finland, Kuopio University Hospital (KUH) - Kuopion yliopistollinen sairaala (KYS), UCL Queen Square Institute of Neurology and Adamant Health.

We’ve just returned from this year’s International Congress of Parkinson’s Disease and Movement Disorders in Copenhagen and are strongly encouraged by the valuable and in-depth discussions we had there.
